We need a button in IMDB movie listings that you hit to add a film to your Netflix queue.

My officemate just told me about High Spirits, which she says is cheesy but great, and now I want to see it. Now I have to go log in to Netflix and look for it. Sure, only a few more clicks, but integration would drive business for both sites!

Sure, it sounds like the reference librarian is playing regular piano jazz very quietly at the reference desk.

And then you realize she's singing very quietly, under her breath, "When I am King you will be first against the wall...."

(I'd like to dedicate this idea to [livejournal.com profile] mrmoonpants, long may she reign.)

Here, have some Brad Mehldau goodness. If you click through to the YouTube page, it will start you on a whole playlist of Mehldau. His "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" is not to be missed. Neither is his "Black Hole Sun." I want to BE this guy.

Commenters on some of these tracks say things like "I had no idea Black Hole Sun had such jazz chords, until I listened to this version!" Really? I always thought I knew very little about jazz but oh, I can hear those things-- ask [livejournal.com profile] havenstone about my tendency to sing jazz scat harmony over top of "Head Like A Hole."

I told [livejournal.com profile] holmes_iv earlier that I was totally living my inner social class conflicts this weekend.

Taylor Smith is pretty introspective-girl-singer for a country station, but there you have it:

I also heard the only Toby Keith song I can stand, which is obnoxious but I like laughing at him: I Wanna Talk About Me.

This post brought to you by Oz having sat down on my lap. I'm such a sucker for a cat who sits down on my lap and looks up at me with this "...but I'm so COZY!" look. Awwwww.

I just got my mortgage commitment letter package. Yay!

They got the purchase price wrong. Again. Boo.

Edit: was so tired I was confusing purchase price with loan amount. New loan amount is near old purchase price, so I thought they'd messed it up. Once I figured THAT out I realized I was so tired I should go back to bed. Oy.

Every time I look at the name of Lorac, the cosmetics line, I think it should be a Dr Seuss character. Apparently it's 'Carol' backwards and the brand was founded by a Carol, which is much less fantastic.

This is why you use gloves and a wooden wedge to handle supermagnets.

I'm kinda proud of This ranked list of must-hear Jonathan Coulton songs I just wrote for OutlawRadio.

He does good stuff that didn't make that list, because there is a significant sentimental-value factor at work when I think about his stuff. Make your own and let's compare!

Audio quite NSFW, but absolutely worth it.

I blame [livejournal.com profile] jadefu and [livejournal.com profile] oxlahun for this. I laughed so hard I could not _breathe_.

Oz the cat has a trick. I just caught him at it.

I sorta knew, vaguely, that sometimes the mug of water beside my bed isn't there in the morning. I sorta realized that it couldn't be me drinking it, that I therefore had to presume either I was flailing or the cat was knocking my mug over, and that this was a big problem if, say, I put my laptop on the floor when I fall asleep every night. But I always go to sleep with a mug of water by the bed, and my brain doesn't entirely connect with the fact that sometimes it's gone in the morning, because there hasn't been a puddle.

Just now, I heard a clunk in my sleep, realized the cat was standing on the bed at my left elbow facing my bedside table, and went from ZZZZzzzz to Gee-Oz-just-knocked-over-my-mug-on-my-power-supply in less than 5 seconds. Thank goodness there was a towel nearby in a pile of laundry and I could find it without turning on the light. Thank goodness I had put the actual computer under the table, and the water mostly hit empty space. Oh, my poor copy of Cetaganda.

Oz thinks it's awesome that his human got up at 5 AM, and has run wildly about the apartment a few times and then gone back to sniffing the roses in the vase on the kitchen table. Like you do when you're a cat trying to look innocent. He has tried to get back on the bed a few times, but he's still in "fun" mode, so he took off the millisecond I started to shove him off the bed, for more crazy running around.

Grrrrrr. He knocked it right on my slippers, too.

Fabrication of an artificial 3-dimensional vascular network using sacrificial sugar structures. (The article is not free. I'm linking to this page so you can see the abstract, and get to the free supporting materials.)

In other words, they're creating artificial capillary networks using COTTON CANDY. Yes, really.

Last year's addictive power pop song.

It won an MTV award of some sort for being addictive. Best use of a riding lawn mower I have ever seen in a music video.

Will this be next?

Screw that, it's the next for me, and I'm happy with that. (So if you need to share your "OMGIHATETHESEPOPSTARS" kindly do it elsewhere.) Also, Katy Perry is adorable and yes, I would kiss her.

(PS: Thank you [livejournal.com profile] sstrickl for help with the German!)

I have a new userpic. It is possibly the most truthful thing I have ever posted to LJ. Feel free to copy and use, if you are also, er, loud. For whatever meaning of loud, I don't judge.

I would post, but it would be pretty identical to my mood last Tuesday morming, when I was tired and working on getting a mortgage and blasting "Take Your Mama Out" repeatedly. Really, it's the same thing today.

But now your girl's gone a missin'
And your house has got an empty bed
The folks'll wonder 'bout the wedding
They won't listen to a word you said

Gonna take your mama out all night
Yeah, we'll show her what it's all about
We'll get her jacked up on some cheap champagne
We'll let the good times all roll out

Actually, this sums up my attitude over most of the last two years, doesn't it. WOO!

Shopping for a mortgage shouldn't excite me this much, but it does, and I'm okay with that.

PS: Oh, go listen to the whole song.

I know a lot of you read Cute Overload regularly anyway, but I have to say that I am completely captivated by the slow loris:

If I had it to do over again, I might call myself technoloris or something.
